Our Philosophy
Citizen Canine employs only dog-friendly, positive-reinforcement training methods as promoted by the SF SPCA Dog Training Academy and Sirius Puppy Training school founder, Dr. Ian Dunbar. Dogs only continue to engage in behaviors that are rewarding to them. Therefore, we reward good behavior with praise, treats and other life rewards and ignore poor behavior until it extinguishes itself from lack of reinforcement. A positive, dog-friendly approach to training typically results in behavioral improvement more quickly than a strict disciplinary approach.
We always take the time to get to know each dog before their stay at Citizen Canine so that we can find cues in their personality to motivate improvements in behavior. Professional dog trainers coach our staff on the subtleties of canine body language, positive-reinforcement training and handling techniques. We put these skills to use in every interaction we have with our canine guests.

Individual training sessions are available as an additional activity while your dog is staying at Citizen Canine. These sessions are offered to complement current training at home, but not meant to replace the work necessary between owner and dog to build a strong working relationship.
