Join Our Team!

If you are interested in becoming a member of our upscale boarding hotel & daycare, we look for qualified Part-Time Dog Care Specialists on a rolling basis throughout the year. The position calls for someone who not only loves dogs but so much more. We are the Bay Area’s first five star kennel and have been labeled the “Ritz Carlton of dog hotels” by KRON 4 TV, therefore the right person to join our team must meet the highest of standards as well.

The ideal candidate must meet the following requirements:
• You must love dogs! It’s what we’re all about.
• Be able to multi-task and keep a cool head – we are a busy place with playgroups, baths, feeding and cleaning all going on at once. Are you able to keep cool under organized chaos on a daily basis?
• Be flexible and available to work part-time (3-4 shifts per week totaling 24-32 hours) but there is always the possibility of more, especially over the holidays. Weekends and all holidays are required of everyone who works here.  No exceptions, so don’t ask!

• Be available for our shifts which are from 6am to 2:30 pm or 12:30pm-9pm and we operate 7 days/week, 365 days/year.
• You must be punctual, reliable and able to handle large, strong dogs and do some heavy lifting.
• You must be comfortable with all the glamorous stuff associated with caring for dogs- scooping poop, cleaning up vomit, diarrhea, doggy breath etc.

Prior experience in the dog care industry (grooming, shelter volunteering, positive reinforcement training or other daycare/boarding facility) is preferred, although extensive in-house training is provided.  We are the best because we train our people to be the best. We invest a lot of time and energy into our new hires and therefore expect a high level of commitment, passion and drive in return.

We only use positive reinforcement based training methods when working with our clients so a similar mindset is appreciated. This is a great opportunity for someone wanting more dog handling experience prior to starting their own training or walking business!  Due to the shift hours, having your own reliable transportation is required – public transportation cannot get you here by 6am especially on weekends and holidays.

All other positions within the company – customer service, consultations, adventure hike leaders, supervisors and management – require experience as a dog care specialist first since dog care is our first priority! No direct applications for other positions will be considered. Advancement within the company is performance based.

Employment at Citizen Canine provides the following benefits:
• Performance based pay reviews semi-annually.
• Eligibility for Health Insurance and Vision/Dental benefits after 90 days.
• Paid Vacation accrual after 90 days.
• Discounted pricing on dog toys and food.
• A fun place to work!

If you are interested, please email us a resume and cover letter stating why you are the right person for the job including any prior relevant work experience with dogs.  Send applications to jobs@citizencanine.net. Incomplete applications will not be considered.  No phone calls or drop-ins, please.  If we are interested in speaking with you, we will contact you to set up an interview.
