Meet The Citizen Canine Team!

Owning a pet is a big responsibility. Chances are good there will come a time when you will need to be away. Business trips, vacations or even a stay in the hospital can have you wondering how best to provide the care your pet will need while you are away. Choosing the proper boarding for your pet can be difficult and stressful. Citizen Canine aims to make the transition from home to kennel as stress-free and enjoyable as possible.

We understand the most important factor you will consider is the training and experience of the staff charged with your pets care. That is why every member of our staff receives training as a Certified Pet Care Technician. Owner Tina Merrill founded Citizen Canine in 2000 with the goal of providing pet owners with a quality, safe and happy environment for pets.

The staff at Citizen Canine loves your dogs as much as you do. General Manager Dana Kleveland is an honors graduate of the San Francisco SPCA Academy for Dog Trainers and is both a Certified Pet Dog Trainer and Certified Kennel Operator. Operations Manager Alice Hsiung is a Certified Kennel Operator who has had extensive training with aggressive behavior. Katy Becker, Citizen Canine’s Behavior and Training Manager, is also a graduate of the San Francisco SPCA Academy and also a Certified Pet Care Technician. David Thompson and Wendy Moshir-Fatemi are the leaders of Citizen Canines unique Adventure Hike program and have extensive training and experience handling all types of dogs.

Citizen Canine offers day and overnight boarding as well as training, and their new Dog Adventure Hikes- a 90 minute supervised exploration of the hills of East Bay. The facility at Citizen Canine offers each dog an indoor, private, climate-controlled space to rest and relax. There is also a 6000 sq. ft. play yard stocked full of toys, K9Grass and a kiddie pool. Play groups are arranged based on age, size and temperament. Families of dogs are kept together to minimalize stress and maintain a familiar routine.
