Oakland Residents Compete In National Dog Show!
We are very proud of the Oakland residents who competed in the 138th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in New York in February, 2014, which was televised live. This Super Bowl of dog shows is the optimum place to show special dogs and bask in the excitement of a lifelong dream.
Beverly Blanchard, age 44, and her mother, Linda, age 65, of Pontiac both began showing dogs at age 8. This was the first time they entered Westminster and the first time a mother and daughter competed against each other and with the same breed, German wirehaired pointers. Linda’s dog, Maksim for short, was named after Maksim Chmerkovskiy, who is a pro on “Dancing With the Stars.”
Also with their first times at Westminster were Richard Brown, 56, of West Bloomfield, who showcased a grand champion English bulldog, Pyrus; as well as Melissa Wade Raszkowski, 33, of Canton, who showed a Belgian Tervuren, Stellar, imported from Norway as a puppy by Pat Morgan of Mayville.
