WATCH OUT FOR FOXTAILS

Foxtails are common in the Bay Area and can be very harmful to your dog.  The pointy spikes of dried foxtail plants can easily get stuck in ears, noses, and even work their way into your dog’s skin through his fur.   Embedded foxtails sometimes need to be surgically removed.  The best thing you can do to keep your dog safe is to avoid foxtails if at all possible, check your dog thoroughly after hiking-even if you didn’t see foxtails on your adventure, and keep a close eye out for symptoms of foxtails lodged anywhere in her body.  If you think your dog might have a lodged foxtail, contact your vet immediately.
